Science and Technology

Our goal

To work for the national and international dairy sector through research, development and knowledge transfer in the areas of science and technology.
Excellence

A research team that combines academic excellence and multidisciplinary expertise.

Speed

Timeliness and efficacy in conducting tests and research.

Reliability

At Fundación Instituto de la Leche (FIL), a non-profit organization, we guarantee an efficient performance of the tasks entrusted to us with a reliable use of the resources committed.

Academic Support

We have the support of several national and international universities.

Research

Tests

What do tests focus on?

   Basic aspects of animal physiology.

Development of feeding strategies focused on productive performance and health.

Who trusts us?

We work with innovative companies and universities that consider investment in research and development essential for the responsible growth of the dairy production.

Projects we are proud of

Milk consumption levels in Holstein calves during the preweaning period.

Strategies to reduce the negative energy balance of dairy cows in early lactation to improve productive and reproductive performance and strengthen the immune system during this stage.

Differential energy supplementation in immediate postpartum dairy cows and its residual effect during full lactation on methane emissions.

Understanding the endocannabinoid system and its potential role in dairy cows.

Our Resources

We work with all the productive infrastructure of FIL: 550 hectares (1359 acres) of land in Suipacha, Province of Buenos Aires, a fully operational dairy farm, a herd of dairy cows and the necessary equipment and facilities to perform physiology and feeding tests.

Training

The constant technological changes and the new forms of production in the dairy industry worldwide require that the operators involved acquire training and skills according to these technologies. We collaborate in the research of Degree and PhD students from various universities, so that they can attain a high level of training together with those who, with their daily work, make production possible.
We seek to encourage new generations to develop a true vocation for dairy farming in our country and in Latin America.

Our main objective is to transmit knowledge to improve the quality of work and good practices aimed at optimizing productivity in dairy farms.

Training courses

We design each training course in a multidisciplinary way focused on the needs of participants:

Intensive on-site courses for updating and improvement, combined with interactive online workshops.

Theoretical/practical workshops at our testing facilities.

Courses and workshops are held in those areas of Argentina and Latin America where dairy basins exist.

Enrolment in the training courses

-Agricultural Engineers, Veterinarians, Zootechnics Graduates, Agricultural Production Technicians.
-Undergraduate and graduate students from Argentine and foreign universities.
-Dairy producers, workers and consultants.

Practical Training Program

Professionals who require it can –after an evaluation of possibility and feasibility– request FIL’s facilities and infrastructure to complete their theses and/or doctoral studies.

During the tests, we have the collaboration of thesis students and undergraduates from universities, who acquire a vast and rich experience in the area of research and field work. We consider that these opportunities facilitate the completion of studies in a very effective way for their future activity as professionals in the area.
